"Susana Chaguar Handbags" are expertly woven by Wichí artisans who reside in the Gran Chaco region of Argentina. For generations, artisans from Chaco have skillfully worked with the fibers of chaguar, a plant that grows abundantly in the wild. They meticulously spin, dye, and hand-weave these fibers. Over time, they have passed down the knowledge of various stitching techniques and unique designs, resulting in each piece being a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Because each product is individually handmade from natural materials, creations are unique. Exact patterns won't be restocked. You'll always find new and similar patterns, with the same "Susana Chaguar Handbag" design. Each piece carries a unique story behind its craftsmanship!
Chaguar Care: Chaguar is a natural fiber, and so are its dyes. Humidity can cause the chaguar to stiffen. If it becomes stiff, simply iron the bag to soften the chaguar and restore the product's shape. Do not wash; dry cleaning is recommended.
Matriarca works together with the Cooperative of Artisan Women of Argentina, who work manually applying ancestral knowledges. For over 20 years, handicrafts have been an engine of economic development for indigenous communities in Argentina, with members from Chaco, Formosa, Salta, and Jujuy.
